You were given Pantone's color predictions for Spring to draw inspiration from. What colors did you end up selecting and why? "I used greens, blues, pinks -- all from the Spring 2009 Pantone colors because they are what we can expect to see all over for the next few months and I'm happy because they're some of my favorites!"
What does Springtime mean to you? "I was born on the first day of Spring so it's always meant life, joy, and lots of self reflection. It also means fresh flowers, more salads, and time spent outdoors exploring, photographing, and taking a break by reading or journaling on my blanket in the park."
How did you try to translate that into your work? "For me Spring means birds, soft pastels, moths and butterflies, romance, sunny days, book reading, playing board games on the front porch and grabbing a little clutch and biking to the shore to spend my last few dollars on a cone of homemade ice cream. I incorporated a few of my beloved vintage finds, including a delightful little book, Silver Pennies, written in 1929 and filled with poems for girls and boys. I also included a vintage bird card, moth illustrations, three vintage green buttons and a page torn from a French children's book. Other items shown include: Scrabble pieces (a favorite game of mine since childhood), a roll of Japanese pink grid masking tape from Etsy seller lovepetitzakkajapan, a fresh ranunculus stem in white and a fabric bag from Made By Hank."
Will this work be available as a print? "No, I'm a little shy about selling my work online but also worried that I wouldn't have the time to maintain a shop in addition to my other responsibilities right now. Perhaps someday."
Complete this sentence, "I'd love if someday I could: take a month off and lay on a beach somewhere in a resort town, disconnect from the world, just my Thorsten & me. I also dream of staying at the Parker Palm Springs for a long weekend venturing into town to dine and shop, and I can't wait to someday own a storefront -- a dream I hope to someday see. Most importantly, my husband and I recently decided that we want to have a baby so in a few years we'll do just that. I can't wait to experience the years ahead!"
